Sister/ Charge Nurse – Nephrology Ward 7C
A permanent Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse position (37.5 hours per week, shift rotation) at Liverpool University Hospital – Royal Hospital site.

This role is within Ward 7C, a 20‑bed Nephrology unit and an 8‑bed regional Renal unit. The successful candidate will act as a role model to junior staff, assist the ward manager, and have clinical and professional responsibility for the coordination and safe running of the ward.
Peritoneal dialysis and haemodialysis experience is desirable, but training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership
- Act as a role model and expert nurse, providing specialist clinical knowledge to colleagues during MDT meetings.
- Undertake clinical supervision of nursing colleagues individual or group basis.
- Serve as a resource for health care professionals with visible availability and support.
- Ensure efficient use of physical and financial resources.
- Lead consultations, contribute to strategy development for effective care delivery.
- Maintain health, safety and security of staff and patients; promote best practice.
- Maintain and lead risk assessment and reduction processes; encourage no‑blame culture.
- Lead investigations of incidents and complaints, provide detailed reports to complainants.
- Provide innovative, enthusiastic leadership, guidance and advice to staff on operational and professional issues.
- Demonstrate clinical leadership, challenge boundaries to enhance patient journeys.
Management & Operational
- Identify and develop proposals and business cases for service innovation.
- Lead service development and clinical area influence through business planning and partnership with senior leaders.
- Delegate work to match team capabilities and workload.
- Ensure high standards of nursing care are maintained; act when standards are not met.
- Involve patients and carers in planning and delivery of care; act as advocate and ambassador.
- Lead development of patient‑focused education and information.
- Recognise, prevent, and diffuse conflict; take key role in managing outcomes.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse, current NMC registration.
- Teaching and assessing qualification or equivalent.
Experience
- Evidence of management experience.
- Evidence of developing high standards of patient care.
- Evidence of change management.
- Application of evidence‑based practice.
- Lead role in education of staff and patients.
Knowledge & Skills
- Application of current nursing issues and healthcare governance.
- Ability to work in changing environments.
- Basic IT skills, including e‑mail and word processing.
Personal Attributes

- High level of personal and professional credibility.
- Well motivated.
