Consultant Cellular Pathologist

Applications are invited for a Consultant Cellular Pathologist to join a supportive and committed team of 8 pathologists. This post offers the opportunity to practice to a high standard with supportive colleagues in the area of Cardiff and surrounding Welsh Coast and Countryside.
The post is suitable for either a first‑time consultant looking to develop within an innovative team or an established consultant histopathologist wishing to further develop within a new environment and relocate to new places.
Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of the expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.
Main duties of the job
Work closely with clinical colleagues within Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board to provide a wide range of cellular pathology services. Services include specimens from dermatology, gynaecology, head and neck, lung, breast and gastrointestinal, including bowel screening.
Provide and develop a wide ranging cellular pathology service for primary, secondary and tertiary care colleagues.
Opportunity to participate in the coronial autopsy for all Consultants (currently optional).
Work within a department that has cancer unit status for breast, colorectal, lung, upper GI, urology, gynaecology, head and neck and skin. Workload is shared according to RCPath workload points and the appointee will be encouraged to develop a specialist interest complementary to the existing team.
The department has an excellent immunohistochemistry service and a lead Pathologist for molecular pathology working closely with The All Wales Genomics Service. It actively takes part in teaching and training of medical and laboratory staff.
Qualifications and Eligibility
- FRCPath or equivalent qualification
- Full and specialist registration with the GMC (eligible for registration within six months of interview)
- UK‑trained applicants must hold a certificate of completion of training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by the interview date. Non‑UK trained applicants must provide evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.

- Proven leadership skills and a responsible attitude
- Commitment to provision of a strong clinically‑orientated service
- Interest in teaching and training medical and non‑medical staff
- Good interpersonal skills to work well in a multi‑disciplinary environment
- Excellent organisational skills, able to meet deadlines and prioritise workload
- Ability to work on own initiative and within a team
- Welsh language skills level 3 or above (B2) desirable
Knowledge and Experience
- Broad knowledge of histopathology, gynaecology and non‑gynaecology cytopathology
- Experience in audit and/or quality improvement within the last 18 months
- Experience of teaching undergraduates and postgraduates
- Previous experience working in the NHS or an equivalent healthcare system
