We are seeking a Plumber to join our team to help keep our hospital environment safe, operational and supporting the health and wellbeing of our patients, staff and visitors. We really mean it when we say no two days are the same – it's a blend of planned maintenance coupled with emergency repairs and everything in between.
Main duties of the job
Trained in hospital plumbing and drainage systems, you will work in a hospital uniform as part of a team of six colleagues, performing planned preventive maintenance and emergency repairs to engineering plant and equipment. You will exercise independent judgment, prioritise your workload and handle urgent tasks safely within your own supervision.

Job responsibilities
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with managers, colleagues, contractors and trust-wide service users.
- Liaise with contractors, utility suppliers, professional parties and other service users both during normal working hours and out of hours whilst on call.
- Provide operational advisory support to Trust staff and managers to ensure compliance with all safety standards and procedures.
- Advise the Senior Estates Officer and/or Senior Hospital Staff (Duty Manager on call/Directorate Managers) on maintenance issues outside normal office hours.
- Respond to estates-related incidents and liaise with other members of the Trust staff who request assistance.
- Liaise with wards and departments to ensure requested work is specified correctly, meets user needs, is provided efficiently and completed within agreed priority response periods, including patient critical engineering plant and equipment.
- Carry out planned preventive maintenance inspections and testing to ensure compliance with Trust procedures and statutory requirements.
- Refer to and understand engineering/technical drawings, specifications and technical manuals.
- Assist in commissioning of mechanical services, plant and equipment.
- Understand the workings of mechanical and plumbing systems within all Trust properties, test, diagnose and repair faults, and adapt to new situations as they arise. Pass on knowledge to others.
- Maintain complex systems including boilers, heating and DHW systems, pressurised systems, water systems, tanks, rainwater systems, lead flashings, drains, sewers, air conditioning systems, building management systems, catering equipment, heat exchangers, and plant and equipment in mortuary, theatres and other hospital fixed plant.
- Work in hazardous areas, confined spaces and on contaminated equipment, taking all safety measures to prevent danger, avoid injury and protect equipment. Ensure risk assessments and operational procedures are actioned and observed.
- Be fully conversant with all Trust policies and procedures, including Fire Safety, Infection Control, Health & Safety at Work Act, COSHH Regulations, Manual Handling guidance and safe systems of work.
- Identify and prioritise own workload and that of others when appropriate, and actively participate in the performance management information system, completing all required paperwork timely.
- Ensure the security of all plant, equipment and buildings under the Maintenance Department. Keep work areas secure and lock plant rooms at all times.
- Assist and support the Trust's Engineering Officers in project work, new equipment testing and commissioning, specifications, surveys, costing and similar duties. Undertake inspections for pre-installations and investigate services required for new equipment, carrying out minor installation improvement works.
- Keep plans, electronic and hard copy records, spreadsheets and statistical data updated and revised as necessary.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Education
- Attained a recognised craft-certified qualification (e.g., City and Guilds qualification or NVQ level 3).
- Relevant credited technical qualification.
- Attained or working towards a technical qualification in a specialist area.
- Attained a recognised and certified supervisory/leadership/management qualification.
Knowledge & Experience
- Proven ability to understand and comply with detailed procedures.
- Demonstrated competence in a maintenance plumbing role.
- Continued training across traditional trade groups.
- Previous experience working in the NHS or large complex building service installations (non-domestic).

£28,392 to £31,157 a year per annum plus (£3,492 RRP + Overtime + shift enhancements)
