Head of Finance (AI-Native) | Tier 1 VC-Backed B2B Marketplace Start-up | Remote (UK Timezone)

The Client

Harmonic is proud to announce we have been retained to work with a B2B enterprise-grade marketplace transforming a large, fragmented legacy sector. Backed by Tier 1 VCs, having just raised a large Series A, the business has built strong commercial traction by replacing a slow, fragmented status quo with a modern, AI-native platform. Their distribution network already reaches a significant base of enterprise clients, and the commercial momentum is real.

The business is now gearing up for a large Series B. The founding team has rare domain credibility and an established network in their sector; this is a company at an inflection point where commercial momentum is running ahead of financial infrastructure, and this hire is the answer to that.

The Role

This is a first finance hire, reporting directly to the CEO. You will take ownership of existing outsourced US accounting, a financial modelling capability currently managed by an interim RevOps lead, and a UK transfer pricing arrangement, then build a scalable, AI-enabled finance function from the ground up.

The initial split is roughly 50% FinOps (monthly close, payments, reconciliations, controls), 30% FP&A (financial modelling, GMV analytics, projections, spend ROI), and 20% systems and controls as insourcing begins. You will also lead Series B preparation end-to-end: the investor-grade reporting, data room, and financial narrative. This role is hands‑on now and grows in strategic weight quickly. You will be the CEO's strategic financial partner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of outsourced accounting providers and transfer pricing arrangements; own the monthly close, controls, and cash management from day one
  • Build FP&A from scratch: financial modelling, GMV analytics, spend ROI analysis, projections, and scenario planning
  • Develop finance dashboards and KPIs that drive commercial and board-level decision-making
  • Lead Series B preparation: investor-grade reporting, data room, and financial narrative
  • Design and implement an AI-enabled finance function; use tooling and automation to build lean, real-time infrastructure rather than a large traditional team
  • Partner closely with the CEO and leadership team as a trusted strategic voice on commercial decisions
  • Manage relationships with outsourced payroll, tax, and statutory filing providers; own the roadmap to bring capability in-house
  • Work effectively across US and UK time zones in an international operating environment
  • Build the strategy for the future of the finance function, including hiring and mentoring.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a first or early finance hire in a venture-backed business, with a track record of building financial infrastructure from scratch
  • Strong background in FP&A and financial modelling; comfortable owning forecasting, scenario planning, and commercial analysis
  • Technology fluency: comfortable with API integrations, using AI tools for reporting and automation, and building systems rather than just operating them
  • Comfortable working across US and UK time zones
  • Background in marketplace, ecommerce, or B2B SaaS; particularly where GMV-based or multi-sided payment models are relevant
  • Experience supporting a fundraising process: investor reporting, data rooms, and financial narrative building
  • At least a relevant accountancy qualification (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent) may be beneficial, though is not required
  • Experience building or managing outsourced finance provider relationships
