Role Overview
An outstanding individual is sought to fulfil the role of Training Programme Director for Gastroenterology for KSS. This is a 1 session (4 hrs per week) vacancy. The role is to work with and support the Head of School in leading the delivery of a wide range of functions aligned to the NHS England mandate.
Responsibilities
The Training Programme Director is professionally and managerially accountable to the Head of School. The focus is on improvement of learner supervision, assessment and experience, engagement of faculty and ensuring effective educational outcomes. The program director will also drive whole‑workforce transformation and develop multi‑professional links.
- Oversee the Gastroenterology Regional Training Programme.
- Address specialty‑specific matters and trainee/trainer concerns.
- Recruit to training posts and programmes.
- Manage postgraduate programme elements, including assessments, progression, rotations, support and remediation, out‑of‑program obligations, trainee management, career support, part‑time training, inter‑deanery transfer, academic training and related work‑streams.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an experienced NHS Consultant with a thorough understanding of Gastroenterology training across the region and who also possesses strong leadership and communication skills and can work effectively as a member of a multi‑professional team.
Qualifications
- Fellowship of College /Faculty, professional association and/or body.
- Attendance at courses aimed at supporting educational development.
- Qualification such as PG Cert, diploma or Master of Medical Education.

Employment / Experience
- Experience working with learners or doctors in training in an educational context.
- Experience of clinical and educational leadership and innovation, including managing a multi‑professional team.
- Demonstrable track record of delivery of service and education.
- Understanding of developments involving the relevant Colleges / Faculties and professional bodies related to NHS organisations.
- Understanding of the workforce transformation agenda.
- Trained and experienced in recruitment, selection and E&D in the last 3 years.
- Active involvement in and up to date with the appraisal process.
- Knowledge of the NHS, its structures and processes including understanding workforce matters.
- Applicants who are doctors require a licence to practice.
- Previous or current appointment as a leader in healthcare education.
- Awareness of funding streams for healthcare education.
- Understanding of current health and social care and education policy.
