Role

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic rail professional to join our Rail and Transit Advisory Team in London to drive growth in our rail planning and wider transport advisory capability. The successful candidate will have extensive industry expertise and a strong track record in delivering consultancy projects in the rail and transit advisory space. You will be responsible for leading the delivery of advisory services across the full spectrum of our service offer, encompassing project feasibility studies, commercial analysis and strategy development, demand and revenue forecasting, cost forecasting, economic appraisal, business case development and rail operations. You will also build strong client relationships and drive growth in our portfolio of work, supporting Rail Reform activity and leveraging your network to support new business opportunities. The role reports to the Rail and Transit Advisory Practice Manager and will involve managing, developing and growing a dynamic London-based team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of rail and transit advisory projects.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to quality standards.
  • Identify, pursue and secure new business opportunities, collaborating with Global market teams.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to project teams, ensuring effective collaboration and communication.
  • Provide expert advice across core service offerings including feasibility, policy, commercial strategy, demand, revenue and cost forecasting, economic analysis and business case preparation.
  • Oversee the preparation of project documentation, including business cases, project plans and progress reports.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards and best practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement in project delivery processes and methodologies.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record in delivering transport advisory projects on time and to budget across core service lines.
  • Strong understanding of the UK transport sector, including DfT, Network Rail and other national and subnational bodies.
  • Awareness of the transition to GBR and the opportunities rail reform presents.
  • A network of client relationships to develop new business opportunities and win new work with key UK clients.
  • Experience in project leadership and team/line management, including mentoring of junior staff.
  • Strong stakeholder and client management skills, analytical and problem‑solving abilities, and a strategic mindset.
  • Strong technical experience in industry standard principles and guidance across disciplines such as demand forecasting, economic appraisal and spreadsheet modelling best practice.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • An exceptional client focus and commitment to exceeding clients’ expectations.
  • Relevant degree and professional qualification in transport, engineering, project management or a related field.

Security clearance

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If required, this will be discussed at interview. The vetting process is delivered by United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) and may require candidates to provide proof of UK residency of 5 years or longer.
