Location: Gaydon
Job Description:

About The Role

At Aston Martin, our Special Vehicles represent the very best of design, performance and craftsmanship. We are looking for a Special Vehicle Project Engineer – exterior and interior to take responsibility for commodity design specification and ensure compatibility across all vehicle systems, attributes and performance targets. This role is central to delivering unique vehicles that meet exacting standards for quality, cost and timing.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will lead the implementation of Special Vehicle body exterior and interior designs in line with the agreed vehicle definition, working closely with the Vehicle Line and Design teams. Your responsibilities include owning and delivering the commodity strategy, coordinating and managing failure mode prevention activities (DFMEA, QHRs, lessons learned), facilitating cross‑functional design reviews, and managing virtual and physical build phases. You will oversee the creation, management and release of high‑quality 3D and 2D CAD data, including GD&T, and support the creation of archetypes across multiple platforms. You will work directly with suppliers to understand manufacturing feasibility, benchmark competitor vehicles, and maintain data quality and governance within the PLM system. Structured problem‑solving skills are essential to develop contingency plans that manage cost, timing and delivery challenges, and to lead root‑cause investigations. Presenting technical information clearly and confidently to stakeholders at all levels, including the CTO, will be a significant part of the role. Finally, you will support issue resolution throughout the prototype, pre‑production and production phases and maintain high‑quality engineering documentation such as FESO to ensure cross‑functional alignment.

What We’re Looking For

Experience in body project engineering with a flexible focus on Special Vehicles. A solid knowledge of legal and compliance requirements related to body engineering and a broader understanding of vehicle requirements. A degree in engineering is desirable, though exceptional equivalent experience is acceptable. Extensive experience delivering products from concept through launch within a Body Engineering context is required. You should have a strong understanding of automotive development systems (specification, releasing, gateways, containments and sign‑off documentation), manufacturing processes (metal pressings, castings, extrusions), and the ability to apply and interpret CAE analysis to drive design development. Experience in material selection, gap and flush analysis, fixing strategies, DFMEA, virtual builds and QHRs is important. You will be detail‑oriented, confident in decision‑making and comfortable working with complex data. A collaborative and enthusiastic approach, with strong communication skills both written and verbal, will enable you to motivate others and maintain momentum in a changing programme environment.

The post holder will be required to comply with all policies and procedures issued by and on behalf of Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd.

We understand that the incredible beauty, craft and art that defines an Aston Martin comes from the inclusion of our amazing people. We welcome the unique contributions that you can bring in terms of your education, opinions, culture, ethnicity, race, sex, gender identity and expression, nation of origin, age, languages spoken, colour, religion, disability, sexual orientation and beliefs. We celebrate diversity and are seeking applicants who can bring something different.
