Interim Financial Controller (6-Month FTC)

We’re supporting a well-established, high-growth business in appointing an Interim Financial Controller to provide maternity cover over a 6-month period.
This is a key role within the organisation, offering the opportunity to step into a well-run finance function and ensure continuity, control, and high-quality reporting during a critical period.
The Role
As Interim Financial Controller, you’ll take ownership of the finance function, ensuring all core processes continue to operate smoothly while acting as a trusted partner to senior leadership.
This is a hands‑on role with full visibility across the business, suited to someone who can quickly get up to speed and deliver with confidence.
Key responsibilities
- Overseeing the day‑to‑day finance function and ensuring smooth operations
- Leading month‑end and year‑end close processes
- Producing accurate and timely management accounts with meaningful commentary
- Maintaining strong financial controls and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements
- Managing cash flow and working capital, providing clear visibility to the business
- Acting as the main point of contact for auditors and external advisors
- Supporting senior stakeholders with clear, reliable financial insight
- Overseeing and supporting the finance team to maintain performance
- Identifying and implementing process improvements where appropriate
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for an experienced Financial Controller who can step into an established environment and add value from day one.
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
- Proven experience operating at Financial Controller level
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and attention to detail
- Experience managing month‑end close and financial reporting processes
- Confident communicator, able to engage with senior stakeholders
- Strong Excel and finance systems capability (Sage experience beneficial)
Highly desirable
- Experience with stock and WIP
- Exposure to asset‑based lending facilities
- Background in hire, construction, or related sectors
