About the Role
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced underwriting operations professional to support the day-to-day running of a Treaty Reinsurance operations function within a leading specialty insurance environment. The role plays a key part in ensuring underwriting processes, reporting systems, and operational controls run efficiently while also contributing to continuous improvement and digital transformation initiatives. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of underwriting, operations, and technology, with exposure to reinsurance processes, data systems, and cross‑functional collaboration. It offers the chance to improve operational effectiveness, support underwriting teams, and help implement innovative solutions including automation and emerging technologies.
Responsibilities
- Support the daily operations and ongoing development of treaty reinsurance underwriting systems and reporting tools across internal and external platforms.
- Oversee overdue premium management in collaboration with finance and credit control teams.
- Manage aggregate exposure monitoring, ensuring adherence to defined underwriting authorities and escalation protocols.
- Support large loss reporting processes and ensure timely and accurate documentation.
- Assist with the administration and coordination of reinsurance placements.
- Ensure underwriting bordereaux are maintained accurately and kept up to date in collaboration with underwriting teams.
- Act as a key liaison between underwriting operations and technology/change functions to ensure smooth implementation of system updates and process enhancements.
- Serve as the main point of contact for system updates and changes across key underwriting platforms, ensuring clear communication to the wider team.
- Maintain awareness of emerging technologies, including AI, and assess their potential application within reinsurance operations.
- Provide general operational and administrative support to underwriting teams, including reporting, system tasks, and project assistance.
Qualifications
- Experience in an underwriting operations or insurance operations role, ideally within reinsurance.
- Strong technical ability with high proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, including advanced Excel; SQL and VBA experience highly desirable.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise across technical, operational, and underwriting teams.
- Collaborative team player with strong relationship‑management capability.
- Calm, methodical approach with a focus on accuracy and delivery.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with AI tools and their application in underwriting or insurance operations.
- Experience with underwriting systems such as PEGA or similar workflow platforms.
- Understanding of reinsurance structures and contract wording.
- Exposure to London market insurance operations.
