Dental Officer

North Cheshire and Mersey NHS Foundation Trust (BCH) – Dental Officer

An exciting opportunity to join the Community Dental Service in Cheshire and Merseyside. The successful candidate will provide primary dental care to children and adults with additional needs, both on referral from General Dental Practitioners and on a continuing care basis.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide a wide range of primary dental care for patients including children, people with disabilities, older people and those referred by general dental practitioners.
  • Provide dental care in domiciliary settings for housebound patients.
  • Provide treatment in the clinic with local anaesthetic or inhalation sedation.
  • Provide dental care under general anaesthesia in hospital for patients who cannot receive treatment in the clinic.
  • Travel across the Trust; support services in any Cheshire and Merseyside location.
  • Adhere to departmental and professional standards and protocols without direct supervision.
  • Comment on policies, propose changes to departmental practices, and maintain full and contemporaneous dental records.
  • Access communications from the Trust and the department via e-mail.
  • Complete FP17 forms for patients, determine treatment band, organise patient charges, and report bad debtors to the Head of Dental Services.
  • Support the Clinical Director in maintaining health and safety and security within the department.
  • Participate in audit and peer review.
  • Undertake any other duties and responsibilities within the framework of the post.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Experience to post VT level.
  • Providing dental care for children.
  • Providing dental care to special care patients.
  • Undertaking dental care in the domiciliary setting.
  • Treatment with inhalation sedation.

  • Confirm Right to Work status (share‑codes will be checked where applicable). NOTE: Preference for candidates with Right to Work.

  • Ability to travel independently across the Trust.
  • Ability to work flexibly in accordance with service needs.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Ability to provide a wide range of dental care to a high standard.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage own workload.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • Knowledge of professional standards.
  • Ability to work as a member of a large team.
  • Ability to use electronic dental patient records system.
  • Knowledge of FP17s, treatment banding and patient charges.

Relationships

  • State any relationship with a director or employee of an appointing organisation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Dental Surgery or equivalent.
  • Full registration with General Dental Council.
  • Performer number.
