An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Registered Professional Mental Health Nurse, Social Worker or Occupational Therapist to join the Mental Health Central Access Point.
Mental Health Central Access Point (MHCAP) is a 24 hour telephone service based at Anstey Frith House, County Hall in Glenfield, Leicester. This platform serves callers who have used the NHS 111 option and selected option 2 for Mental Health Support.
The key skills for this role include excellent ongoing assessment, problem solving and risk assessment skills. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team, showing empathy, patience, understanding and excellent listening skills.
You will receive emotional and professional support, including ongoing continuing professional development. Regular one‑to‑one meetings provide a forum for transparency about factors affecting you and your work.
As part of the team, you will work collaboratively with Psychiatrists, Nurses, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists and other professionals. The collective support and knowledge enable you to perform at your best.
The health and wellbeing of our team members is important. We offer a robust induction period, regular supervision and support, and opportunities for career progression through a structured learning journey.
The role of a Band 6 Mental Health Central Access Point is to coordinate and provide specialist telephone assessments, interventions and expertise to service users in crisis 24/7, 52 weeks per year, over the phone within the community team.
The successful candidate will collect, collate and report patient information accurately, maintaining complete and contemporaneous nursing records in line with NMC / HCPC and Trust standards, involving clients/service users and carers/relatives in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care.
The role includes coordinating shift work in partnership with Turning Point recovery workers, supporting a multi‑disciplinary team and collaborating with other professionals/agencies to ensure needs are met safely and effectively.
This dynamic role requires specialist assessment of risk and offers professional and diverse team interactions, providing extensive experience across the acute sector.
You will have opportunities to develop your skills, working alongside other urgent care pathway teams, primary and secondary care, and mentoring students while supervising Band 3 staff and receiving leadership training.
We aim to develop a workforce that reflects our community and actively implement equal opportunities in employment and service delivery. We strongly encourage applications from all sections of the community, particularly from under‑represented groups.
All jobs will require permission to work in the UK. Applicants at risk within the local NHS who meet essential criteria will have preference for interview.
We consider requests for alternative hours or varied working patterns in line with our flexible working policy. For all substantive roles, new staff (excluding medical staff) are appointed subject to a 6‑month probationary period.
