You will be part of the commissioning team, working closely with our subject matter experts to prepare vehicles for active service. This role is primarily based at our production facility, but you will also go out on the water to provide technical support during sea trials.
Responsibilities
- Carry out hands‑on commissioning tasks on maritime hardware, including mechanical assembly checks and electrical testing.
- Perform sensor calibrations and system diagnostics to ensure all onboard equipment is mission‑ready.
- Use a variety of technical tools such as multimeters and oscilloscopes to fault‑find and repair complex systems.
- Support active sea trials by troubleshooting platforms in a marine environment.
- Follow strict quality gate procedures and provide accurate feedback to the Senior Commissioning Engineer.
- Maintain high standards of wiring for internal systems and control units.
- Work a standard Monday to Friday week, with the flexibility to support occasional weekend work during busy trial periods.
- Travel and support on off‑site testing locations and may be away from home.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- NVQ Level 3 in Engineering (Electrical, Electronic or Mechanical) or an equivalent vocational qualification.
- Proven track record in a hands‑on technical role within the maritime or robotics industry.
- Ability to work safely and effectively on the water during platform testing.
- Able to achieve Seafarers medical (ENG1) or ML5.
- Significant experience as a bench technician working with maritime, robotic or highly complex engineering systems, including hydraulic, electric and mechanical systems.
- Proficient in reading technical drawings, wiring diagrams and assembly instructions.
- Skilled in using diagnostic equipment to identify and solve hardware issues quickly.
- A practical, problem‑solving mindset and comfortable working on vessels during water‑based trials.
- A strong understanding of workshop safety and the specific challenges of the maritime environment.

- ECS Commissioning Engineer gold card.
- Experience with marine electronics and communication systems.
- Full UK driving licence and a RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate.
