Are you passionate about helping others and providing exceptional customer service? Would you like to join an organisation that puts its customers at the heart of what they do? If so, then Skipton Building Society have the perfect opportunity for you!

You will join as a Customer Relationship Consultant to work at our Sale & Northwich branches.

What will you be doing?

The role includes engaging in conversations to understand customer needs, providing information about our full savings range, products, and services, and conducting My Review appointments to discuss customers’ financial goals in a friendly conversation. By listening and getting to know customers, you will help them review their circumstances and goals (financial, family, retirement, peace of mind, or a new home) and proactively identify the most appropriate products. You will provide a straightforward, helpful service that lets your enthusiasm shine.

In-branch we support customers face to face, virtually, and by outbound contact to reach customers at relevant times. Whether promoting a new product or resolving a problem, you will place customers’ needs at the heart of everything you do and provide first-class service every time. You will be a listener, a problem solver, and a fountain of knowledge to help them achieve their financial goals. Together, you can help us build a better Society.

Who are we?

Not just another building society. Not just another job. We are the fourth biggest building society in the UK and we are a mutual organisation owned by our members. We value diversity and want colleagues from all backgrounds. Our purpose is to help more people have a home, save for life ahead, and support long-term financial wellbeing. Our colleagues say Skipton Building Society is a great place to work, and you could be part of that experience.

What will you be doing?

  • Engage, understand, and identify customer needs by asking great questions and tailoring the right solution for the customer and the Society.
  • Be the first point of contact for customers in-branch with enthusiasm and a desire to help.
  • Conduct My Review appointments face to face, virtually, or by telephone.
  • Proactively contact customers to identify and discuss their needs.
  • Educate customers on a range of products and services and the different channels to engage with us.
  • Ensure customer records are accurately maintained in internal systems and identify and support vulnerable customers appropriately.
  • Adhere to policies, standards, controls, and limits of authority applicable to your role, supported by training and coaching.

What do we need from you?

  • You will have previous experience of interacting with customers. We’re happy to consider candidates who have not previously worked in a bank or building society.
  • Your experience may be in person or over the phone; Skipton’s customers value flexible engagement channels, including contact centre experience.
  • Your background could be in retail, food & beverage, guest services, or the health/care sector. If you can demonstrate a passion for delivering exceptional service, we’re happy to consider you.
  • You will enjoy meeting new people and engaging in purposeful conversations.
  • The ability to work well with others in a “one-team” mindset.
  • The ability to stay calm and manage time effectively in a busy environment, handling a variety of customers.
  • Willingness to grow, adapt, and change with business needs and priorities.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence different audiences through appropriate channels.
  • Open to a broad range of activities, including those outside standard expectations.

What is in it for you?

The role is a permanent position working 36 hours per week, with a salary of £26,750 per annum and a range of benefits including:

  • Annual discretionary bonus scheme.
  • 25 days standard annual leave + bank holidays, increasing by 1 day per year of service to a maximum of 30 days after 5 years.
  • Holiday trading scheme to buy/sell additional annual leave days.
  • Generous employer matched pension contributions – up to 10% per annum.
  • Benefits portal with an Employee Assistance Programme and online employee discount platform.
  • Three paid volunteering days per year.
  • Colleague mortgage and savings accounts plus colleague discount schemes.
  • A commitment to training and development.
  • Private medical insurance for colleagues.
  • Salary sacrifice scheme for hybrid/electric car.
