About The Role

Experienced Engineering Design Manager – Major Rail Projects (High‑speed Rail, Metro, Light Rail) to lead the successful delivery of complex, high‑value infrastructure schemes across the UK, Ireland, the Nordics and globally.

You will be responsible for the engineering/design management of large, multidisciplinary project teams, working on the end‑to‑end delivery of major capital and engineering/design‑led projects, from early concept and consenting through detailed design, construction and handover. You will also play a key role in client engagement and governance, contributing to the continued growth of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver major, complex railway infrastructure projects from inception to completion.
  • Manage the engineering/design process, including interface coordination of large multi‑disciplinary teams (internal resources, consultants, contractors and supply‑chain partners).
  • Set communication guidelines across disciplines to ensure progress and quality in engineering/design solutions, using best practices to satisfy client needs and requirements.
  • Lead technical discussions with clients.
  • Act as the client’s senior representative, managing relationships with clients, regulators, statutory bodies and key stakeholders.
  • Champion health, safety, environmental, sustainability and customer outcomes, embedding best practice across projects.
  • Undertake project and programme reviews to drive continuous improvement and lessons learned.
  • Support and lead client engagement.
  • Contribute to the professional development of the wider team and the strategic growth of the business.

What We Need From You

  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Proven track record delivering large‑scale, complex construction and/or engineering/design‑led rail infrastructure projects (high‑speed rail, metro, light rail).
  • Experience managing and directing large project teams (often 100+ people), both insourced and outsourced.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering to demanding schedules, targets and quality standards.
