The Senior Trade Analyst leads the execution of complex customs services, ensuring full regulatory compliance for high-value import/export operations. Beyond standard declarations, you will act as a subject matter expert, identifying process efficiencies, managing high-level client relationships, and mitigating trade risks. This role reports to the Team Leader and serves as a technical escalation point for the team.
Core Responsibilities/Requirements
- Expert Compliance: Oversee and audit complex import, export, and transit declarations (Simplified and Full Port), ensuring 100% accuracy in HTS classification and valuation.
- Process Optimization: Actively identify gaps in current customs procedures and design/implement improved workflows to enhance productivity and reduce lead times.
- Risk Management: Lead the detection and mitigation of customs risks. Develop proactive countermeasures and ensure all procedures align with the latest EU & UK Customs regulations.
- Strategic Reporting: Design and deliver advanced data analytics and trade reports for clients, using insights to provide strategic recommendations on duty savings or compliance improvements.
- Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary point of contact for key accounts, managing complex queries and ensuring high-level customer satisfaction through technical expertise.
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and technical support to Trade Analysts; assist the Supervisor in training and quality control audits.
- Systems Leadership: Master and manage data within internal systems and UK Port Inventory Systems (e.g., Destin8, CNS), troubleshooting issues as they arise.
- Advanced Technical Knowledge: Deep expertise in UK/EU customs laws, Incoterms, and Rules of Origin.
- Analytical Leadership: Ability to translate complex trade data into actionable business intelligence using Power BI and advanced Excel (VBA/Macros/AI).
- Problem Solving: Proven ability to resolve high-stakes customs disputes or border delays independently.
- Communication: Strong ability to present technical regulatory information to non-technical stakeholders clearly and concisely.
Education/Experience Requirements
- Experience: 3–5+ years of hands‑on experience in a customs brokerage or international trade operations environment.
- Systems: Proficiency in Destin8, CNS, or CDS is essential.
- Education: Degree in Logistics, International Trade, Economics, or Law is highly preferred.
- Certification: Professional customs certification (e.g., UK Customs Academy Level 3 or 4) is a significant advantage.

- Advanced Declaration Management: Execute and audit complex export/import declarations (Simplified, Full Port, and Special Procedures). Serve as the final point of review for high‑value or high‑risk entries to ensure total compliance.
- Regulatory Subject Matter Expertise: Master the interpretation of the Harmonized Tariff System (HTS), Rules of Origin, and evolving UK/EU Customs Regulations. Provide definitive guidance on complex classification, valuation, and duty relief regimes (e.g., IPR/OPR).
- Strategic Data Intelligence: Transform raw international trade data into high‑level analytical insights. Develop automated reporting dashboards that help clients identify trends, minimize duty spend, and monitor compliance health.
- Key Account Advocacy: Act as the lead consultant for external partners and high‑priority clients. Manage complex service issues and provide proactive advice on trade policy changes that may impact their supply chain.
- Internal Consultation & Mentorship: Serve as the primary technical resource for the operations team. Provide “on‑the‑desk” training to junior employees and act as the first line of escalation for technical customs roadblocks before they reach management.
