Mechanical Design Engineer

Birmingham, West Midlands

£45,000 – £50,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Role Summary

We are currently looking for an experienced and talented Mechanical Design Engineer, utilising Solidworks CAD package with natural problem‑solving skills, a technical background, and strong experience in an engineering/manufacturing environment.

Your role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in the continued development of the Design Department and have a positive impact on the manufacture of high‑quality bespoke engineered products.

You’ll use unique and innovative design methods to create the best design solution for manufacturing, using your existing Engineering knowledge and experience to continuously look for and suggest ways to improve.

Responsibilities include

  • Using Solidworks CAD package to create concept designs & virtual prototypes of a wide range of products for client approval
  • Taking initial concept designs to completion
  • Produce technical drawings for manufacturing (internal & external processes), and installation
  • Liaising with production and installation teams
  • Work with Project Managers to ensure deadlines are met and designs are produced efficiently
  • Produce detailed requisition lists for procurement

Key Skills required

  • A strong background of Mechanical Engineering Design experience
  • Ideally a minimum of 3 years SolidWorks experience will be required
  • Previous knowledge of metal fabrication, welding and sheet metal folding processes
  • The ability to carry out mechanical calculations
  • Familiarity with the design approval process and the issue of production drawings to ensure the best manufacturing and installation processes are used
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem‑solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A strong team‑player with a drive to succeed
  • Flexible working attitude
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to multi‑task and prioritise work
  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office

Additional knowledge / skills (Beneficial but not Essential) include

  • FEA Element Analysis
  • AutoCAD
  • Laser cutting processes including exporting dxf’s
  • Manufacturing engineering
  • ISO 9001 regulations and compliance
  • BSEN 1090 standards
  • Machine Directives
  • Electrical control systems & actuators
  • Hydraulics & pneumatics
