Field Service Engineer
Location: Glasgow/Edinburgh area | Contract: Permanent, Full Time | Salary: £43,000–£45,000 + on-call allowance | Hours: 45 hours per week
The Role
If you’re a hands‑on engineer who thrives on problem‑solving, variety, and making a real impact, this is a chance to join a leader in the rail industry’s maintenance and technical support sector.
As a Field Service Engineer, you’ll be out in the field ensuring the trains and rail equipment that keep the country moving are operating safely, reliably, and to the highest standard. This is your opportunity to become a key player in one of the UK’s most essential industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to field callouts and coordinate access to assets directly with customers
- Diagnose faults using structured procedures and technical documentation
- Identify effective solutions to return equipment to service efficiently
- Replace faulty components onsite, or elevate issues where needed
- Complete thorough functional testing before returning assets to the customer
- Maintain strong customer‑focused communication at all stages
- Produce clear and accurate technical reports
What You’ll Need
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering
- Proven fault‑finding and diagnostic skills
- Hands‑on experience in relevant technical environments (e.g., engines, systems diagnostics, electro‑mechanical equipment)
- Confident IT skills, including MS Excel and laptop/tablet use
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently
- Full UK Driving License essential
