Role Overview
Crossing Hurdles is sourcing a Regulatory Compliance Specialist with a strong accounting background to support Verita AI's data pipeline work. In this role, you will apply your domain expertise to evaluate AI-generated outputs, identify where AI reasoning falls short, and help translate real accounting workflows into structured training data. This is a long-term, fully remote freelance engagement suited to experienced accounting and compliance professionals who value flexibility and precision work.
What You Will Do
- Evaluate AI-generated outputs for accuracy, reasoning quality, and domain correctness across accounting and compliance workflows.
- Translate real-world accounting processes into structured tasks used to train and improve AI models.
- Identify gaps, edge cases, and reasoning errors that require domain-level expertise to catch.
- Document assumptions, thought processes, and decision logic clearly in written form.
- Provide structured feedback that engineering and research teams use to refine AI systems.
Domain Focus
- Month-end and year-end close processes.
- Journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Financial reporting and compliance.
- GAAP and IFRS standards and application.
- Audit procedures and internal controls.
Requirements
- Five to eight or more years of experience in accounting, audit, financial reporting, or regulatory compliance.
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP; familiarity with IFRS is an asset.
- Experience with one or more ERP systems, including NetSuite, SAP, or QuickBooks.
- CPA preferred; candidates with equivalent credentials and experience will be considered.
- Ability to articulate technical reasoning and judgment calls clearly in writing.
Work Style and Expectations
All work is completed asynchronously through Slack and internal tools. There is no fixed schedule, and meetings are minimal. That said, consistent weekly engagement is expected. The minimum commitment is ten hours per week, with fifteen to twenty or more hours per week strongly preferred. This structure is designed for professionals who can manage their own time and maintain a reliable output cadence without close oversight.
Compensation
- Rate: $100 to $125 per hour USD, depending on experience.
- Payment: Fortnightly via Deel.
- Engagement type: Long-term freelance.
- Strong performers may be considered for retainer arrangements over time.
You May Be a Good Fit If
- You have owned or meaningfully contributed to a close process and understand what can go wrong at each stage.
- You care about accuracy and precision, and you notice errors that others overlook.
- You are comfortable reasoning through edge cases, ambiguous scenarios, and situations where professional judgment is required.
- You can explain your reasoning clearly in writing without relying on verbal back-and-forth.
To Apply
This role is managed exclusively by Crossing Hurdles on behalf of Verita AI. To be considered, please submit your resume for internal review. Shortlisting decisions are made within 24 to 48 hours. Approved candidates will be contacted directly with next steps.
