About the Role
A senior mechanical design engineer is needed for a multi‑disciplinary consultancy located in Birmingham. The role involves project management of medium to large scale projects and specialist mechanical services design.
Responsibilities
- Lead project management of medium to large scale projects and individual engineering tasks for multiple schemes.
- Develop, refine and finalize engineering design solutions for mechanical services elements, coordinating with internal teams and clients.
- Attend project meetings, conduct site inspections and monitor works at the site level.
- Perform survey work and site inspections to support design development.
- Conduct design calculations using hand calculations and software‑based modelling.
- Prepare drawn information, technical specifications and technical reports.
- Identify and resolve problems early, manage project risks actively.
- Peer‑review and check design information prepared by others.
- Manage a project‑specific team of engineers and allocate workload to graduates, project engineers and admin staff.
- Maintain records and archives to company standards.
- Manage the project’s own workload to meet defined targets and deadlines.
- Manage commercial aspects of projects, including income and costs.
- Maintain client relationships and seek additional opportunities within existing and new client relationships.
- Take responsibility for own professional and personal development; contribute to performance reviews and mentoring of staff.
Core Experience
- Minimum 10 years post‑graduate hands‑on design experience within building services and building services consultancy.
- Experience in HVAC (including ISO Clean/Dry Rooms), hot and cold water, compressed air, steam, foul drainage above ground, central control / building management systems.
- Accreditation via an appropriate Institution (e.g., CIBSE under an Energy Assessor Scheme) for production and lodgement of non‑domestic Energy Performance Certificates desirable.
Qualifications & Credentials
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
- Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) or Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) membership.
- Building services / architectural engineering degree and/or masters.
Technical Skills
- High computer literacy with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Experience with Autodesk Revit MEP, Cymap and, ideally, EDSL Tas.

- Strong communication skills, with confidence to represent the company to clients and external stakeholders.
- High attention to detail and self‑motivation to progress within the company.
