Specialist Doctor in General Medicine – Outlier Team/Virtual Ward
A new team has been created to promote early discharge to virtual wards and alternative health-care pathways. The role includes managing medical patients originating from surgical wards and supporting the team in achieving early discharge goals.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the highest clinical standards in the management of General Medical patients.
- Prepare and manage medical patients placed on surgical wards.
- Monitor and offer advice for patients on the virtual ward.
- Focus on early discharge to the virtual ward, Acute Care at Home, and similar services.
- Actively encourage and innovate alternative methods of support to facilitate early and safe discharge from medical wards.
- Teach and train junior staff and medical students where applicable.
- Ensure active participation in Continuing Medical Education (CME).
- Participate in departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and Audit.
- Attend meetings as appropriate.
- Work the middle grade rota, including out‑of‑hours commitments.
- Where interested, pursue ward‑based opportunities in a specific specialty.
