Band 6 TB Specialist Nurse

An opportunity has arisen in the Birmingham & Solihull TB Service for an enthusiastic nurse to join the team. The team provides follow‑up care to patients diagnosed with tuberculosis and offers screening to contacts. The specialist team manages TB incidents and outbreaks across Birmingham & Solihull.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a dynamic nurse who has an interest in TB and experience working with vulnerable and underserved people. The post holder must be highly motivated, enthusiastic, flexible, adaptable, and have substantial experience in this or a similar field.
Job responsibilities
- Case‑manage a caseload of adult and child TB patients, supporting and ensuring treatment completion to prevent the spread of infection and minimise drug‑resistant disease.
- Work closely with the multidisciplinary team, UKHSA, local authorities, neighbouring TB services, and TB services across the country.
- Drive a community vehicle – a full category B driving licence is essential.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
- Degree or equivalent.
- Non‑Medical Prescribing qualification.
Experience
- Evidence of ongoing CPD.
- Experience teaching in a variety of environments.
- Experience in community and management of TB cases.

- Evidence of participation in research and audit.
- Evidence of dissemination of knowledge within wider healthcare organisations.
- Evidence of development and implementation of clinical management plans.
- Ability to perform in stressful and complex situations.
- Sound clinical reasoning and decision‑making.
- Flexibility.
- Ability to inspire and lead a team.
- Awareness of current relevant NHS policy context relating to the speciality.
- Understanding of safeguarding principles as they relate to the role.
- Knowledge of corporate and clinical governance.
- Understanding of the TB Action Plan and priorities.
- Ability to meet travel requirements of the post and be independently mobile.
- Excellent driving record (clean or no more than three points).
- Awareness of current research related to the speciality.
