Overview
The Clinical Systems Support Officer will be based at the Royal Free Hospital, Hampstead, but will work across all Royal Free London sites. At least two days of onsite work per week will be required. The role involves a mix of independent work and supporting IT to deliver a smooth and robust service for a discreet number of clinical systems covering services from across the Trust. The officer will manage daily support and supplier relationships, and project manage upgrades or major functional changes to ensure services are always maintained.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily support and NIB-related tasks for clinical systems.
- Project manage upgrades or major functional changes to keep services maintained.
- Maintain security and access control (RBAC), routinely reviewing rights and applying them in line with IG directives.
- Liaise with General Managers to discuss and agree improvements to workflows and processes, and assess the implications of any changes to the wider Trust.
- Attend meetings with stakeholders and suppliers, both internal and external, as required.
- Provide highly complex clinical application support to service users using the most appropriate communication method (Teams, face‑to‑face, or telephone).
- Represent Patient Systems in wider strategic decision‑making through regular liaison with internal managers in areas such as Informatics, Coding, DQ, and RTT.
- Provide up‑to‑date and accurate reporting from departmental IT systems as requested.
Education and Professional Qualifications
- Knowledge of a range of IM&T areas acquired through qualification to degree or equivalent level or relevant experience.
- In‑depth knowledge and experience of the use of IT in healthcare.
- Specialist knowledge acquired through postgraduate diploma or equivalent experience.
- Additional managerial knowledge in an IT customer‑focused environment.
Experience
- Experience of working at a senior level within a customer‑focused and service environment.
- Working with staff at all levels across a multidisciplinary team in a variety of environments.
- Extensive knowledge and experience of clinical applications in an NHS setting.
- First‑hand experience of updating and maintaining system security policies for all responsible systems.
Skills and Aptitudes
- Communicates complex IM&T and corporate issues to non‑IM&T managers; negotiates with external organisations over service issues (e.g., suppliers, NCL).
- Analyses complex problems relating to service issues and makes judgements regarding allocation of resources for Patient Systems work.
- Plans projects which impact across the department and organisation, contributing to medium‑term IM&T strategy.
- Works toward agreed objectives with freedom to operate within broad professional policies; acts without direct manager reference as a department manager.
- Standard keyboard skills and ability to manipulate complex data quickly.
- Assists patients and clients during incidental contact within the care environment.
- Implements IM&T policies and procedures; proposes changes and redesigns local policies that affect other areas.
- Occasionally participates in equipment testing and undertakes routine equipment testing and adaptation.
