Mechanical Fitter – Responsibilities & Requirements
As a Mechanical Fitter, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and improving a wide range of heavy industrial machinery. This role requires a hands‑on approach and the ability to work under pressure in a physically demanding environment.
- Carry out planned preventive maintenance (PPM) to minimise downtime and extend equipment life
- Respond quickly to breakdowns and perform effective reactive maintenance
- Diagnose mechanical faults across a range of heavy plant machinery
- Repair and replace components such as bearings, gearboxes, chains, belts, pumps, and hydraulic systems
- Work on conveyors, crushers, screening equipment, and other large‑scale industrial systems
- Conduct alignment, fitting, and installation of mechanical components
- Use technical drawings and manuals to support maintenance activities
- Ensure all work is carried out in line with health and safety regulations
- Assist with shutdowns, overhauls, and project work
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and reports
- NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Proven experience in a heavy industrial environment
- Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills
- Experience working with hydraulics and pneumatics
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Electrical Engineer – Responsibilities & Requirements
As an Electrical Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of electrical systems across the site. You will be working on complex industrial equipment where downtime must be minimised.
- Perform planned and reactive electrical maintenance across the site
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults quickly and efficiently
- Work with PLC systems to identify and resolve control issues
- Maintain and repair motors, drives, control panels, and instrumentation
- Carry out testing, inspection, and fault finding on electrical systems
- Support installation and commissioning of new equipment and upgrades
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards and site procedures
- Collaborate with mechanical teams to resolve cross‑functional issues
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance performance
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance and repairs
- NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Experience with PLC fault finding and industrial control systems
- Strong understanding of electrical maintenance in heavy industry
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
