CONTRACT TYPE: 12 Month Fixed Term Contract
DEPARTMENT: Technology Operations – Studio & Broadcast Infrastructure
LOCATION: London, Broadcasting House (shift work including weekend and night shifts)
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £43,000 - £53,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience.
PROFILE OF THE ROLE
Based at the BBC headquarters in London, you will join a highly skilled team of Broadcast Engineers, providing 24/7/365 frontline support for broadcasts across TV, Radio, Music recording studios, edit suites and digital production systems. Your key focus will be ensuring that broadcast equipment and facilities are safe, maintained and available to production teams creating content for TV, Radio and online platforms.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
- Deliver a high‑quality support service to BBC studios and other infrastructure sites.
- Diagnose and resolve complex technical incidents and problems in live and recorded programme environments.
- Maintain safety and operational standards, conducting electrical safety inspections and testing.
- Communicate technical issues clearly to a broad range of audiences, and develop innovative solutions using both legacy and new technologies.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Proven engineering experience supporting broadcast systems in live TV, Radio, or multimedia environments.
- Considerable experience diagnosing and fixing technically complex problems across a variety of broadcast systems.
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of audio and video broadcast systems, analytic and digital platforms.
- Awareness of all aspects of Health and Safety, particularly electrical safety in broadcast environments.
- Ability to explain technical issues clearly to a wide range of audiences.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of networking, AoIP, Dante, MADI and diagnostic tools (e.g., Wireshark).
- Experience with robotic systems.
- Familiarity with remote access support using VPN, MSTSC, iLO and VMware.
- Working knowledge of DAW software used in production.
- Willingness to travel internationally if required.
