Overview
This role supports the Warehouse Manager with the day‑to‑day planning, organisation, and control of warehouse operations. It is a hands‑on, operational, and people‑focused role that involves leading teams by example and driving efficiency, safety and accuracy across goods in, goods out and yard activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in planning, organising and controlling warehouse operations
- Set up and structure daily shifts to meet operational requirements
- Lead daily team talks with warehouse supervisors and operatives
- Check stock availability against orders and production requirements
- Investigate loading errors, damages, shortages and discrepancies
- Update logistics and customer service teams on any issues
- Assist in resolving invoice irregularities
- Communicate regularly with production and logistics teams to maximise efficiency
- Support yard management and traffic control alongside the logistics team
- Monitor staff attendance, time‑keeping and clocking in/out
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure daily FLT first‑use check sheets are completed
- Confirm all staff are wearing appropriate PPE
- Carry out regular checks to ensure walkways are clear and safe
- Report near misses and accidents and complete associated documentation
- Promote and maintain a safe, compliant working environment
People Management, Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Support disciplinary processes and workplace investigations when required
- Contribute to quality, environmental and ISO accreditation requirements
- Identify opportunities to improve warehouse processes, layout and efficiency
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across warehouse operations
- Undertake any additional tasks that improve warehouse performance
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in a warehouse supervisory or management role
- Strong knowledge of goods in / goods out operations
- Experience overseeing loading activities and yard operations
- Familiarity with warehouse management systems
- Good IT skills (Sage and Microsoft packages preferred)
- Strong organisational and multitasking abilities
- Confident written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide teams
Qualifications
- Valid Counterbalance Forklift Truck licence (essential)
