Sub Agent – Plymouth

Location: Plymouth, Devonport

Hours: 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 07:30 – 17:00

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Sub Agent to join a major infrastructure scheme based at a secure live MOD facility in Plymouth. This is an excellent opportunity for a civils professional with strong leadership, engineering and delivery experience to support a complex package of works within a highly regulated environment.


Due to the sensitive nature of the site, BPSS security clearance is required. Please note this process can take up to 8 weeks.


Eligibility criteria: Candidates must hold a passport from a NATO or MISWG member country and have resided in the UK for the past 5 years.


Key Responsibilities

As Sub Agent, you will be responsible for supporting the delivery of works safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards. Duties will include:

  • Communicating effectively with site management, technical specialists, commercial teams, planners, engineers, supervisors, operatives, suppliers, subcontractors and client representatives.
  • Maintaining high standards of health, safety and environmental performance, while supporting others to do the same.
  • Leading, supervising and mentoring engineers, supervisors and other team members.
  • Monitoring and recording progress against agreed programmes and construction methods.
  • Identifying programme shortfalls and developing mitigation measures to minimise impact.
  • Maintaining strong working relationships with delivery teams, support functions, supply chain partners and stakeholders.
  • Supporting monthly and quarterly commercial forecasting and reporting.
  • Ensuring labour, plant, materials and subcontractors are planned, procured and available in time to support delivery.
  • Managing the engineering team to ensure works are accurately and clearly set out before commencement.
  • Reviewing Inspection and Test Plans, checklists and daily diary records to ensure high-quality record keeping.
  • Reviewing and authorising risk assessments, activity plans and method statements before works begin.
  • Establishing and maintaining site processes for records in line with project requirements.
  • Managing subcontractors and coordinating site activities.
  • Supporting the Agent with cost management, programme production and quality documentation.
  • Working with commercial teams to ensure records for measurement and payment are produced accurately and on time.
  • Promoting the use of BIM technologies in line with project requirements.
  • Liaising with the General Foreman to ensure work preparation and resource availability.
  • Supporting the performance, development and training of subordinate staff.


About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • Degree, HND, HNC, NVQ or equivalent in Construction, Engineering, Logistics or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience delivering construction, civil engineering or logistics operations.
  • CSCS card at Academically Qualified Person, Professionally Qualified Person, Supervisory or Manager level.
  • SMSTS or SSSTS.
  • Strong people management and leadership skills.
  • Commercial awareness and excellent organisational ability.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • A proactive, collaborative and team-focused approach.
  • Experience in lifting operations.


Desirable Experience

  • ICE Incorporated level qualification or equivalent.
  • Temporary Works Supervisor or Temporary Works experience.
  • Experience in RC works, marine civils, steelwork or paint systems.
  • Experience within nuclear, defence or other highly regulated sectors.
