Electronics & Embedded Software Engineer

Location: Macclesfield (Onsite – 4 days/week)

Salary: £60,000 – £65,000 + benefits

We are seeking a well-rounded Electronics & Embedded Software Engineer to join a growing engineering team in Macclesfield. This is a hands-on role offering full lifecycle ownership—from concept and hardware design through to firmware development and signal processing.

The Role

This position is approximately a 50/50 split between electronics design and embedded software/firmware development, depending on project phase. You will be responsible for:

  • Designing complex, multi-layer PCBs
  • Developing embedded firmware for data acquisition and processing
  • Working across the full product lifecycle—from blank sheet design to finished implementation
  • Handling high-speed, multi-channel data acquisition systems
  • Implementing efficient, real-time signal processing solutions

Essential Skills & Experience

A strong foundation in both electronics and embedded systems is required, but Digital Signal Processing (DSP) experience is essential. Specifically, you should have:

  • Practical experience implementing DSP techniques in embedded systems (hardware and/or firmware)
  • Understanding of filtering concepts, including IIR and FIR filters
  • Knowledge of decimation chains and signal conditioning
  • Experience working with high data rates (e.g. tens of kS/s across multiple channels)
  • Ability to optimise processing to avoid CPU bottlenecks

In addition, you should be comfortable:

  • Taking ownership of complete engineering solutions independently
  • Working in a small team environment rather than a highly segmented large organisation
  • Making sound engineering judgements across both hardware and software domains

Working Environment

  • Onsite collaboration is key – this role requires 4 days per week in the office (Monday–Thursday)
  • Fridays are a relaxed half-day (8:00–12:30), with flexibility to work from home or in the office

About You

You’ll be a proactive, self-sufficient engineer who enjoys owning projects end-to-end. This role suits someone who thrives in a collaborative, onsite environment and wants to make a meaningful technical impact over the long term.
