A senior role within a Compliance & Risk function at an international law firm in London. The role sits within the New Business Intake (NBI) team and is responsible for overseeing client onboarding, ongoing monitoring and regulatory compliance across the business. The position combines technical AML expertise, stakeholder management and people leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Client Due Diligence (CDD) & AML
- Oversee and quality-check CDD, sanctions, adverse media and ongoing monitoring processes for new and existing clients
- Act as a key decision-maker on CDD sufficiency and regulatory compliance
- Handle escalations, including high-risk or high-profile matters
- Advise internal stakeholders and liaise directly with clients on CDD requirements
- Support audits, quality control and continuous improvement of onboarding processes
Conflicts & Risk Management
- Supervise conflict checking and escalate potential issues
- Identify and manage wider risk considerations linked to new instructions
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of compliance policies and procedures
- Stay up to date with legal, regulatory and financial crime developments
Team Leadership
- Line manage and mentor a team of analysts and senior analysts
- Drive performance, training, development and engagement
- Act as a subject-matter expert and first point of escalation for complex queries
- Ensure work is effectively prioritised and resourced
Projects & Collaboration
- Support firm-wide compliance initiatives and cross-functional projects
- Deliver training to internal teams as required
- Promote knowledge-sharing and best practice within the team
Skills & Experience
- Strong technical knowledge of AML and financial crime regulations
- Experience in a professional services or law firm environment
- Proven people management/supervisory experience
- Confident communicator with strong stakeholder engagement skills
- Highly organised, detail-oriented and able to manage competing priorities
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
