Job Title: Lead Software Engineer

About the Job you are considering:
We are seeking an experienced software engineer with strong expertise in the Banking and Finance domain who will oversee the planning, execution, and successful delivery of projects.
Hybrid working:
The places that you work from day to day will vary according to your role, your needs, and those of the business; it will be a blend of company offices, client sites, and your home; noting that you will be unable to work at home 100% of the time.
Your Role:
- Technology expertise: You will have experience as the technology expert on a development team where you were responsible for everything from planning to delivering key features and managing those features. You must quickly develop a deep understanding of the products and business goals and translate them into technology direction, design, and decisions.
- Experience of Insurance and Reinsurance business and supporting technologies, and experience leading implementation programmes for the same is preferable.
- Agile and Scaled Agile practices: You know about and can lead on a range of Agile and Scaled Agile tools and techniques and be an advocate for these tools and techniques.
- You can establish a feedback loop for teams, and take responsibility for the translation and measurement of value, ensuring this relates to UW Technology Initiatives objectives and business needs. You can ensure the team has situational awareness of work and priorities across the team.
- Communication skills: You know how to communicate effectively across organisational technical and geographical boundaries, understand the context, advocate and communicate what a team does to create trust and authenticity, and react and respond to challenge.
- Lifecycle perspective: You understand the different phases of product delivery and can contribute to planning or running these. You can maintain a product or process through the delivery phases into live and then into ongoing support, and lead a team through these phases of the delivery product life cycle.
- You can maintain and iterate a product over time to continuously meet user needs. You understand incident management and service support so that products are built effectively.
- Making the process work: You focus on the outcome, can challenge and improve disproportionate organisational processes where they impact the pace of the team, and identify what works best for the team and when to utilise certain processes.
- You understand that all steps in a process must add value.
Your Skills:
Technical Experience: Proven experience, a minimum of three years, as a Technical Lead, Solutions Engineer or similar role working within Agile frameworks and associated architecture design, coding languages, and testing deployment tools including the following:
- Angular 6, Java, JavaScript, JSON
- CI/CD pipeline build deployment tools such as Bamboo
- Microservices, APIs
- Cloud experience AWS, Azure, and serverless code deployment
- API integration experience REST; preferred Open API
- Understanding of event‑driven architecture
- Different AWS deployment methods and skills such as native EC2, Pivotal Cloud Foundry, JVM, Docker, Lambda, Step Function, DynamoDB, SNS, SQS, S3, etc.
- Familiar with design thinking, behaviour and test‑driven development; familiar with test‑and‑learn approaches.
- Experience of SQL database development SSIS and cloud deployment e.g., RDS in AWS
- Knowledge of containerised deployments and optimisation techniques/tools such as Docker, Fargate, Kubernetes
- Experience working with wider project teams including Scrum Masters, Product Owners, Business Analysts, and Testers
- Experience producing technical support documentation
- Experience writing technical specifications and User Stories
- Experience working within the full development lifecycle: development, unit testing and release management
- Experience of source code repositories, code branching and version control systems such as GIT and TFS
- Keen interest and working attitude to AI and Agentic Workflows
