Job Description:

Overview

Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world. Our process chemical and process engineering team comprises specialist chemical engineers, scientists and industrial experts who shape everything from conceptual design ideas through pre-FEED and FEED to completed turnkey facilities. We support projects at all stages of delivery, ensuring safe, regulation-compliant solutions. We focus on design development, process optimisation, debottlenecking and control of chemical, physical, and biological processes, from hydrogen production to carbon capture and transformation through to water and wastewater treatment. We are looking for candidates with a background in process engineering design on multi-disciplinary projects within the municipal and industrial water sectors. The team is based across the North of England, with international collaboration across our global offices.

The Opportunity

As a senior engineer you are likely to have the ability to work across the project life cycle from developing concept designs to outline and detailed designs, and skills working in or directing process engineering teams to ensure production of deliverables to established timelines and within budget.

What You’ll Do

  • Coordinate the work of others and liaise with engineers of other disciplines, imparting knowledge and experience.
  • Work in highly regulated sectors within a gated design and project delivery process.
  • Develop mass and energy balances, process data sheets, control philosophies, and commissioning plans.
  • Contribute to report writing and the development of fee proposals and feasibility studies of plant operating and capital costs.
  • Demonstrate practical understanding of how designs will be implemented and apply digital approaches and relevant analysis and design software.

We operate a graduate training scheme accredited by IChemE; as a senior engineer you may join the mentoring programme and help shape our future pipeline of process engineers. We seek candidates with experience in technologies for potable water, wastewater and biosolids processing, including fixed and suspended growth systems, anaerobic treatment, biogas handling, membrane separation, disinfection, nutrient removal, chemical storage and dosing systems, and HazOp, DSEAR, COMAH, SIL considerations, flammable gas handling and compression.

What We’re Looking For

  • Degree qualified in chemical engineering or similar
  • Experience leading or working in process engineering teams to deliver to agreed timelines and budgets
  • Experience with Biowin/GPS-X modelling software
  • Experience acting as the process designer in HAZOP teams
  • Chairing HazOp studies and resolving technical matters; experience in highly regulated sectors preferred
  • Development of fee proposals, creating P&IDs, plant layouts, GA drawings and energy and mass balances
  • Development of feasibility studies and plant operating and capital costs

Other Attributes

  • Collaborative mindset with colleagues and external collaborators
  • Experience as a line manager supporting engineers and early careers
  • Experience with digital approaches and current analysis/design software
