Are you our new Project Architect?
Are you our new Project Architect?
We’re looking for a Project Architect to join our residential architecture practice in Sheffield.
At HEM, we believe great design and a well‑run business go hand in hand. We create thoughtful, well‑crafted homes; but we don’t believe that should come with stress, long hours or constant firefighting.
We use clear systems, structured workflows and strong project leadership to deliver high‑quality projects in a calm, organised way. You’ll be joining a team that’s focused on doing great work in a structured, supportive and high‑performing environment.
If you enjoy working like this, and want to take real ownership of your projects, we’d love to hear from you.
About the role
You’ll lead a range of private residential projects across all RIBA stages. Our work includes whole‑house transformations, low‑energy retrofits and one‑off homes.
This is a hands‑on role where you’ll balance design thinking with strong delivery. You’ll be responsible for keeping projects on track, managing clients and consultants, and making sure great design is carried through to completion.
Our clients are homeowners, so experience in private residential work—and an understanding of how to guide clients through the process—is important.
As a small team, you’ll also play an active role in supporting others and contributing to how we continue to improve the way we work.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who is confident leading projects and enjoys both design and delivery, particularly within the private residential sector. You’ll likely have:
- Minimum of 2 years’ post-Part 3 experience
- Strong experience delivering private residential projects across all RIBA stages
- Experience working directly with homeowner clients and managing those relationships well
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines through good planning and organisation
- Confidence building relationships with clients, consultants and team members
- Proactive approach – you spot issues early and take action
- Interest in sustainability and low‑energy design
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software and Microsoft Office (or similar)
- ARB registration and a full driving licence
Just as importantly, you’ll:
- Enjoy working within clear systems and structured processes
- Take pride in delivering well‑managed, well‑designed projects
- Be organised, reliable and accountable
- Be committed to improving processes to deliver good customer and team experience
- Want to contribute to a positive, collaborative and high‑performing team
It would be great if you also have
- Experience working in a small to medium‑sized practice
- Knowledge of Passivhaus methodology and PHPP
- Strong sketching skills and the ability to communicate ideas clearly
What we offer
- A competitive salary of £35,452 – £40,452 depending on experience
- Flexible working hours
- Hybrid working
- 28 days’ holiday including bank holidays, rising to 32 with long service
- Christmas shutdown
- RIBA membership fees paid
- Enhanced parental leave and pay
- Up to 2 weeks’ company sick pay
- Support for your professional development and training
- Use of a company e‑bike for work travel
- Full‑time position; part‑time hours considered to accommodate ideal candidate
A quick note
We’re more interested in how you think and work than ticking every box.
The right candidate is motivated, able to adapt and passionate about helping our practice to flourish. If you care about doing great design and delivering private residential projects in a structured, professional way, we’d really like to hear from you.
Ready to apply?
Please submit your CV, portfolio and a short covering letter explaining why you’d like to join us via our Google form by midnight, Sunday 31st May 2026.
