The closing date is 19 May 2026

An opportunity for a registered practitioner psychologist (Clinical/Forensic/Counselling) who wishes to develop forensic skills to join the Adult Mental Health Forensic Psychology Service (AFPS). You will work within the Community Forensic Team (CFT) in Hertfordshire, which serves people who have offended and are at high risk of further offending, whether stepping down from secure services or referred from community or other inpatient wards. The CFT works closely with community teams, secure services and other agencies involved in the lives of service users.

The CFT is currently expanding due to increased funding from the East of England Provider Collaborative, enabling enhanced services for the highest risk users, facilitating their step‑down from secure services and supporting them in the community. This is an exciting opportunity to help develop and expand the service.

Main duties of the job

You will work with a complex group of service users, both directly and through consultation to other professionals, in a person‑centred and positive way to manage their offending behaviour and aid change in their lives. This involves working with individuals while they are detained, through discharge and into their own communities and social networks, potentially having a lasting impact beyond the individual.

The CFT is a core member of the Hertfordshire MAPPA; you may represent the CFT and HPFT at these meetings and liaise between teams within HPFT and other agencies.

About us

Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust is one of just five mental health trusts to achieve an overall rating of ‘Outstanding’ from the Care Quality Commission.

Choice, independence and equality underpin our services, embedded in our Trust values:

Welcoming. Kind. Positive. Respectful. Professional.

Job responsibilities

You will be a qualified Clinical or Forensic Psychologist with experience working with offenders. You will be skilled in assessing and formulating risk, communicating formulations and management plans sensitively, and providing interventions to forensic service users individually and/or in groups.

As a development post, you will have opportunities to further develop skills through training and pursue special interests, working within a personal development plan discussed in supervision.

You will work across Hertfordshire and occasionally assess service users in out‑of‑area placements or prisons. You must be a car driver (unless a disability under the Equality Act 2010 prevents you from driving). Applications for flexible working are welcomed.
