About the Unit
Purbeck Ward is a GOLD accredited trauma unit specialising in acute orthopaedic trauma and working within the wider Wessex trauma network. The fast‑paced and unpredictable nature of trauma nursing here provides a supportive ward environment that celebrates achieving good patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high‑quality, safe nursing care driven by patient experience and evidence‑based best practice.
- Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and independently.
- Adapt to frequently changing situations within the trauma setting.
- Support safe and timely discharge planning to promote effective utilisation of beds.
- Participate in training and educational opportunities, including Level 1 Adult Ward Nursing for Major Trauma Patient competencies, TCAR training and the Trust’s Orthopaedic Nursing Study Day.
- Attend additional educational programmes offered at Dorset County Hospital.
Qualifications & Experience
- Registered nurse with experience in an acute hospital setting.
- Experience or strong interest in orthopaedic trauma nursing.
- Ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team as well as independently.
- Willingness to adapt quickly in a fast‑paced environment.
- Commitment to completing required competencies and ongoing professional development.
