Job Overview
This post is to work in the CAMHS Liaison Team based at the acute hospitals Emergency Departments including the Queen's Medical Centre, King's Mill Hospital and Bassetlaw hospital. The service is a 24 hour service offering assessments of Children and Young People presenting to the Emergency Department in crisis and covers the crisis phone line from 8pm to 8am. The post holder will ensure young people receive appropriate assessment, intervention and treatment with minimal avoidable delays while improving the quality and experience of care.
The service will provide care for young people under the age of 18 who are admitted to hospital due to self‑harm and for those experiencing a crisis of such a degree that, without the intervention of the CAMHS Liaison service, inpatient psychiatric care would be required. Clinicians with a varied work experience are welcome to apply as we assess a diverse population.
Location
Acute hospitals Emergency Departments – Queen's Medical Centre, King's Mill Hospital and Bassetlaw Hospital.
Working Hours
Shifts covering the 24/7 shift pattern of the team. Flexibility may be required to support other areas of the CAMHS service owing to fluctuations in demand and capacity.
Requirements
- Full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required.
- Applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check; costs (£26.40 standard or £54.40 enhanced) will be deducted from salary over the first 2 months of employment.
- Enrolment in the DBS Update Service is encouraged (annual fee £16).

Responsibilities
- Provide specialist mental health assessments and develop treatment plans as an autonomous practitioner.
- Monitor interventions using routine outcome measures and MDT case discussion, ensuring compliance with Trust policy.
- Prevent avoidable admission of young people experiencing mental health crisis and/or high levels of emotional distress.
- Maintain professional standards, ensuring adherence to all relevant policies and procedures to deliver high quality care.
- Work as an autonomous practitioner accountable for own professional activities, providing clinically effective, evidence‑based interventions.
- Conduct specialised initial assessments following acts of self‑harm and attempted suicide, gathering information from children, families and relevant agencies.
- Perform specialised risk assessments throughout assessment documentation in appropriate case notes.
- Engage in consultation/liaison work with other agencies and team members.
- Provide liaison psychiatry assessments to young people and families attending Acute Hospitals / A&E Departments experiencing distress or self‑harm.
- Facilitate family‑based interventions and support parents/caregivers in care planning and delivery.
- Complete accurate and timely data input, including documentation and care plans of the highest standard in line with Trust policy.
- Represent the CAMHS service with partner agencies as a specialist practitioner.
- Support service development and represent the CAMHS service within professional and ethical frameworks established by national bodies.
- Provide in‑reach support to young people admitted to psychiatric inpatient beds, facilitating home leave and timely discharge.
- Liaise with and support staff on the Trust's 136 suite’s when a young person is admitted for a section 136 assessment.
