Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is hosting an opportunity for an experienced Nurse and/or Genetics Counsellor to help lead the delivery and succession of a regional programme focused on improving care for families affected by Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD) due to inherited cardiac conditions (ICC). The role is part of the wider ICC Trust team.

This role forms part of a national initiative supported by the British Heart Foundation (BHF), NHS England and Genomic Medicine Service Alliances (GMSAs), aimed at strengthening the awareness, identification, investigation, and management of families impacted by SUD.

Leading delivery across the South East of London and England, you will play a key role in ensuring equitable access to timely, coordinated care, including specialist cardiology and genomic services.

A central component of the role will be working closely with the Genomics Community of Practice (CoP) to support the transition and embedding of SCD pathways into genomic medicine services. The post will also have a strong focus on programme management and education, supporting workforce development and improving awareness of best practice across the system.

Main duties of the job

• Lead regional delivery and project management of the SCD due to inherited cardiac conditions (ICC) programme across the South-East
• Establish and strengthen partnerships with GMSAs, ICC services, coronial services, and wider NHS stakeholders
• Work closely with the Genomics Community of Practice (CoP) to support transition of SCD pathways into more local services
• Facilitate integration between cardiology and genomics services to ensure coordinated, patient-centred pathways
• Support development and implementation of clear, standardised care pathways for families affected by SCD due to ICCs
• Improve consistency in referral, investigation, and follow-up across the region
• Develop and deliver education and training initiatives to support clinicians and stakeholders in adopting best practice
• Act as a key liaison between the host organisation, regional partners, the CoP, and national stakeholders
• Monitor progress, evaluate impact, and contribute to national reporting

Job responsibilities

In partnership with members of the multidisciplinary team and the Genomic Medicine Service (GMS), the post holder will develop, implement and evaluate a seamless specialist service focusing on sudden cardiac death families and survivors of sudden cardiac arrest, ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of clinical care. They will act as a lead specialist, providing specialist advice, education and support to health care professionals and patients, and will actively undertake clinical audits and research within the specialist area.

The post holder will also contribute to the ongoing development of clinical practice, research and standards of care within the service, including development of policies, protocols and guidelines, and support service developments in collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues. They will ensure the safety and wellbeing of services users, and always work in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person‑centred care principles.
