Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and be responsible for the delivery of effective nursing for a complex group of patients and their families, ensuring compassionate and efficient care and keeping the patient at the centre of service delivery.
  • Act as part of the senior management team for the Division within the Clinical Business Unit (CBU), working closely with the Service Manager, Clinical Director, Divisional Nurse Director and Divisional Director to implement the Trust strategy within the Division.
  • Hold overall responsibility for the daily operational management of ANPs and CNSs, developing innovative ways of working to improve the patient pathway.
  • Contribute to the relationship management of referring trusts and support partnership working with other organisations where appropriate.
  • Act as a professional positive role model, promoting expert clinical practice and shaping the care delivered within the wards and day‑care areas in Cancer Services.
  • Line‑manage the Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS), Research nurse leads and Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANP) (where appropriate) within Cancer Services, overseeing resources and budget responsibility.
  • Lead recruitment and retention strategies across their areas, including reducing the use of temporary staffing.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide a clear focus for nursing, ensuring the delivery of high quality care and prioritising patient needs across all settings.
  • Ensure CNSs work at an advanced practice level, delivering specialist services with timely and well‑documented interventions.
  • Lead all governance matters for the area and, where necessary, present reports to the Integrated Governance Committee (IGRM).
  • Demonstrate a commitment to advancing nursing and clinical practice through research and evidence‑based implementation.
  • Line‑manage ANPs and CNSs, fostering a high standard of clinical practice through support and education of the nursing team.

Qualifications

  • Passion for plastic surgery and a strong commitment to cancer care.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Self‑motivated practitioner capable of inspiring confidence in patients and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams, including consultants and broader neuro‑oncology team members.
