An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated radiographer to join the advanced practitioner team as a trainee in plain film reporting. The role will start with chest & abdomen reporting and progress to MSK reporting in the future.
Responsibilities
- Carry out full range of imaging examinations pertinent to specialist area to a consistently high standard, ensuring compliance with imaging protocols.
- Study/training to be an autonomous clinical reporter of plain film within scope of practice and to provide an autonomous expert opinion to referring clinicians.
- Participate in any required studies to maintain competence and expand current practice.
- Provide clinical knowledge and skills within the area of speciality (plain film radiography).
- Teach and supervise radiographers, students, apprentices.
- Liaise with other staff and manage the day‑to‑day organisation of the speciality area in accordance with Trust/departmental protocols and provide management guidance during the absence of the Lead Radiographer.
- Assume responsibility for reporting own workload and accessing associated patient pathways once qualified.
- Perform examinations and imaging in line with governmental and departmental protocols, working both alone and within radiology and multidisciplinary teams.
- Check patient identification and documentation and ensure appropriate radiographic/imaging examinations are carried out in accordance with departmental protocols.
- Train to evaluate resultant images for quality, instigating remedial actions and alert clinicians of abnormalities.
- Participate in request validation, vetting and justification.
- Facilitate communication between department and service users, patients, staff and external users.
- Assist with departmental induction of newly appointed staff.
- Participate in out of hours and on‑call rosters to support full‑service delivery.
- Support booking/reception staff when responding to queries regarding requests for specific modality examinations.
- Assist in implementation of manual and electronic information systems ensuring accurate data collection and recording.
- Attend specialist MDT meetings and radiologist audit meetings, contributing to peer review and service redesign.
- Act as a role model, maintain high standards of professionalism, and encourage development of a flexible multidisciplinary team.
Qualities & Experience
- Substantial post‑qualification experience in a general radiology department, ideally at a Band 6 level essential.
- Experience in CT & intervention desirable.
- Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD).
- Evidence of leadership, service improvement and teaching skills.
- Experience performing examinations and imaging in line with governmental and departmental protocols.
Other Requirements
- Provide an immunisation and vaccination report from a UK occupational health provider or UK GP.
- Attend identified post‑graduate courses to achieve qualifications for plain film service and obtain MSK and chest/abdomen reporting qualifications.
