Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Royal Free Hospital, Hampstead, for a fixed‑term contract for one year. The contract includes 3 positions of 10 full‑time equivalent hours and one position of 8 full‑time equivalent hours.
Candidates are required to work with both adult and paediatric emergency departments during weekdays, evening shifts and a 1‑in‑7 weekend on‑call rota. Consultants participate in self‑rostering to maximise work‑life balance.
Responsibilities
- In conjunction with the existing consultants to organize the reception, resuscitation, investigation, diagnosis and initial treatment of all patients.
- Ensure the successful operation of agreed policies, procedures and guidelines in the treatment and management of patients in the two departments.
- Help construct policies, procedures and guidelines for the successful and efficient operation of the department, with regular review and change.
- Develop and implement medical audit and carry forward the trust clinical governance agenda under the guidance of the Governance Lead.
- Work closely to develop an agreed rota to ensure an appropriate level of clinical input at consultant level and organize duties.
- Participate in the on‑call rota (including prospective cover) covering Royal Free ED out of hours.
- Work scheduled weekends (prospectively covered).
- Serve as designated medical controller in relation to the hospital’s Major Incident Procedure.
Qualifications
Candidates must be on the GMC Specialist Register as Emergency Medicine Consultants. Holders with other sub‑specialty interests within emergency medicine, including research, are also welcomed.
