Overview
Barnet Council is seeking an experienced Senior Social Worker / Advanced Practitioner to join the 0–25 Disabilities Service, specialising in work with children and young people up to age 18. This is a specialist autism‑focused team within Children’s Disabilities, providing high‑quality assessments, safeguarding, and support to children, young people and their families.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete statutory assessments under the Children Act and related legislation
- Lead on complex casework involving children and young people with disabilities, particularly autism
- Develop, implement and review Child in Need, Child Protection and multi‑agency plans
- Undertake direct work with children and families, using communication approaches tailored to additional needs
- Manage safeguarding concerns, risk assessments and multi‑agency coordination
- Provide professional guidance, mentoring and support to less experienced staff
- Prepare high‑quality reports for panels, meetings and court where required
- Work collaboratively with health, education, SEND and community partners
- Maintain accurate, timely case records in line with statutory and organisational standards
About You
- Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration
- Strong experience in children’s disability services, autism, and complex needs
- Skilled in assessment, safeguarding, risk management and multi‑agency working
- Confident managing complex caseloads and working independently
- Excellent communication, analytical and report‑writing skills
- Child‑centred, resilient and committed to inclusive practice

- Ability to travel for family visits
- Hybrid working: 1–2 days in office per week
