Overview
This is a role within the Green Paper for Transforming children and young people’s mental health programme. The post holder will work within the Harrow Mental Health Support Team to provide short‑term evidence‑based interventions to children and young people (CYP) with mild to moderate anxiety, depression and/or behavioural difficulties and to their parents or carers.
The post holder will work with CYP and parents from diverse cultural backgrounds, using interpreters when necessary, and will be committed to equal opportunities.
The MHST works with young people with mild to moderate mental health presentations attending school or education settings in the Harrow area.
Purpose of the Team
- Provide evidence‑based one‑to‑one and group interventions to CYP and parents for mild to moderate mental health issues.
- Support the senior mental health lead in each education setting to introduce or develop a whole‑school or college wellbeing approach.
- Give timely advice to school and college staff and liaise with external specialist services to help children and young people receive the right support and remain in education.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage referrals, address queries, and undertake clinical telephone triage and face‑to‑face assessment.
- Provide advice to and signpost young people and families to appropriate services.
- Supervise junior clinicians within the team, including trainees and qualified education mental health practitioners.
- Participate in the duty rota for the service.
- Form strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
- Work in partnership with schools, colleges and other educational settings.
- Provide training to team members and other professionals or trainees.
- Deliver consultations to education colleagues and support education settings in embedding a whole‑school approach to wellbeing.
- Develop and deliver evidence‑based individual and group interventions to young people within education settings in accordance with Children and Young People’s IAPT principles.
- Hold a caseload of CYP with mild‑moderate mental health difficulties.
- Conduct thorough assessments, risk assessments, care planning and reviews.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation to a high standard, and complete Routine Outcome Measures.
- Evidencing the outcomes of the MHST service and feeding back data to key stakeholders.
- Provide clinical supervision to education mental health practitioners and day‑to‑day clinical and supervisory support for trainee education mental health practitioners.
- Contribute to group supervision spaces within the team.
- Work as part of a senior team, supporting Senior Clinical Supervisors and Service Development Leads to expand the service within Harrow and improve service quality.
- Support and develop interventions that can be delivered within the MHST, including in SEN settings.
- Appropriately raise and report safeguarding concerns where identified and support colleagues with this process.
