This role aims to contribute to the development of the Renal Genomics service in the Department of Nephrology. Working closely with the Renal Genetics team (Consultant Nephrologists, Consultant Clinical Geneticist, Clinical Nurse Specialist and members of the clinical and research laboratories).
Hampstead is part of the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. It is one of five sites within this trust.
The post holder will liaise with the laboratory genetics team at the North Thames Genomic Laboratory Hub (based at Great Ormond Street Hospital) to assist with interpretation of Whole Genome Sequence data in order to provide a diagnosis to people with rare kidney diseases.
They will also contribute to the Renal Genetics and Polycystic Kidney Disease clinics, including delivery of results of genomic testing to patients, and assisting in the delivery of newly licensed treatments to people with rare kidney diseases.
The post holder will also gain experience as sub‑investigator in Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3 clinical trials of new medications for rare kidney diseases, which is an important component of the work of the department.
In addition, the post holder will spend one evening a week as specialist registrar responsible for renal admissions to the Royal Free Hospital, with responsibility for assessing and treating emergency admissions under the supervision of the on‑call nephrology consultant.
