Overview
The NHS National Amyloidosis Centre (NAC), based at the Royal Free Hospital in London, is the only centre in the UK and one of the few worldwide specialising in amyloidosis. It provides a comprehensive diagnostic and management advisory service to the national caseload of amyloidosis patients and has state‑of‑the‑art clinical and research facilities.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine laboratory duties across a designated work area (histology or molecular genetics) in accordance with a discipline rota.
- Use a wide range of highly specialised techniques in histology and molecular biology and provide support to the senior staff.
- Take significant personal responsibility for accurate and timely processing of all patient samples.
- Rotate between the histology and genetic sections and work independently and as part of the team to ensure efficient processing of patient samples.
- Support senior laboratory staff and provide cover in other laboratory sections when needed.
- Adhere to SOPs and protocols, participate in audits, and keep up‑to‑date training records.
- Contribute to the implementation, monitoring, improvement and management of the Quality Management System (QMS) and ensure compliance with UKAS ISO 15189 standards.
- Assist with any research activities undertaken by the NAC (if required).
Qualifications
- Prior experience working in a clinical diagnostic NHS laboratory or equivalent.
Experience
- Experience in histology and/or molecular genetics laboratory settings.
- Knowledge of laboratory quality management systems.
