iO are supporting a major UK engineering organisation operating across nuclear, defence & decommissioning programmes.

They’re looking for a Senior Safety Case Engineer to join a Business Winning / early-phase function, where you’ll help shape safety strategies, define credible delivery approaches, and influence outcomes on high-value bids before projects go live.

You would be expected to:

  • Lead / coordinate safety case input into bids and proposals
  • Define safety scope, delivery assumptions, schedules, and verification / assurance plans
  • Produce and review safety case documentation, technical reports, and supporting justification
  • Support / lead hazard identification and risk assessment activity
  • Work closely with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to drive a consistent, high-quality approach
  • Support engagement with customers / regulators as required during bid stages

Key skills and experience:

  • Strong background delivering safety case work in a highly regulated / safety-critical environment (ideally nuclear or defence)
  • Demonstrable experience writing / reviewing safety case documentation and technical submissions
  • Good working knowledge of ALARP and familiarity with ONR Safety Assessment Principles
  • Able to deliver structured technical analysis and communicate clear, evidence-based arguments
  • Comfortable influencing stakeholders across engineering, delivery, and commercial/bid teams
  • Degree in a relevant engineering / science discipline (or equivalent experience)

  • Enjoys working in the front end of projects (shaping the “how” before delivery starts)
  • Can balance technical depth with commercial and bid priorities
  • Wants a role with real influence across nationally significant programmes
