Environmental Waste Operative (x2) – Full Time (37.5 Hours)

We are looking to recruit two full‑time Environmental Waste Operatives to join our team based at the Aintree site. This is a varied and hands‑on role, supporting the safe and efficient management of waste across the hospital.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collection and transportation of clinical, domestic, offensive and linen waste from ward areas to the waste compound.
  • Segregation of waste into the correct waste streams in line with environmental and healthcare regulations.
  • Supporting the waste recycling function, including segregation of:
    • WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment)
    • Furniture
    • Metal
    • Cardboard
  • Operating the trust’s electric vehicles and bulk waste compaction machines.
  • Ensuring all aspects of the Waste Permit Conditions are adhered to.
  • Placing specific categories of waste in the appropriate skip for off‑site disposal or recycling, as indicated by the Environmental Services Supervisor.
  • Cleaning bulk waste storage areas and waste containers according to the scheduled maintenance.
  • Carrying out external environmental duties, including litter collection and bin emptying, as scheduled.
  • Inspecting all mobile equipment used.
  • Following the incident reporting procedure in the event of accidents during environmental activities.
  • Carrying out any other duties appropriate to the role as may be delegated.

About You

  • Physically fit and able to handle heavy loads on a regular basis.
  • Can work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable, punctual and committed to maintaining high standards.
  • Previous experience in waste management or a similar role is desirable, but not essential.

Working Pattern (4‑Week Rolling Roster)

  • Week 1: Monday to Friday – 07:30 to 15:30
  • Week 2: Monday to Friday – 10:00 to 18:00
  • Week 3: Wednesday to Friday – 10:00 to 18:00
  • Week 3: Saturday & Sunday – 07:30 to 15:30
  • Week 4: Monday, Tuesday & Friday – 10:00 to 18:00
  • Week 4: Saturday & Sunday – 09:00 to 17:00

Qualifications

  • GCSE or other qualification/equivalent.
  • Electric Vehicle Driver Licence or completion of an electric vehicle course.
  • Full UK Driver’s Licence.

Experience

  • Experience working as part of a team.
  • Experience working with the public.
  • Experience in waste management or handling activities.
  • Experience operating electric vehicles or other plant.

Skills

  • Good verbal communication skills.

Other

  • Willingness to learn.
  • Flexibility.
