Job Description

JR PAT Testing is an expanding PAT and Compliance Company currently looking for engineers to join our team in Plaistow. We offer self‑employed positions with flexible hours, allowing interested individuals to work either part‑time or full‑time. The role may involve projects ranging from one‑day assignments to long‑term contracts.

You are required to have your own transport to reach work sites and to own the necessary equipment, including testing instruments and measuring devices. You must hold a City & Guilds 2377 PAT qualification or equivalent, be reliable and honest, and possess a “can‑do” attitude. All equipment must be kept up to date, in good working order, and meet relevant regulations.

A typical day of a portable appliance testing (PAT) engineer

As a Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) engineer, no two days are the same. From hospitals to retail outlets, you will work in a variety of locations and environments. Your day begins with packing all necessary tools and equipment, then traveling to the first job.

On site, you will perform PAT on appliances such as microwaves, kettles, and computers, using test instruments to determine safety. You will inform users of results, explain why certain appliances may be unfit for use, record findings in a test report book or electronic system, and provide employers with copies. Additional paperwork such as completion certificates and checklists may be required.

Throughout the day you will move constantly from one location to another, either alone or as part of a team. Staying organised and ensuring accurate, efficient testing are essential for success.

The role is physically and mentally demanding but rewarding, offering variety, learning opportunities and potential advancement.
