Job Description
WSP is looking for an enthusiastic and diligent Electrical Engineer to join the Maritime team based in the UK.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the technical delivery of a wide range of UK-based and international projects for a variety of clients.
- Provide input through all stages of project maturity, including Feasibility Studies, Concept Designs, FEED Studies, Value Engineering and Detailed Design.
- Prepare electrical deliverables such as Single Line Diagrams, cable calculations and cable block diagrams, plant layouts, cable routing, cable containment design and switchgear configurations, and produce bill of materials/quantities for electrical systems in accordance with international standards and client requirements.
- Draft electrical specifications and review contractor design submissions, assessing them against Employer Requirements, specifications, national and international standards, codes and practice, and good working practices.
- Collaborate with equipment vendors on the development of equipment package designs and participate in technical evaluations of vendor designs.
- Work with owners, operators and investors to assess the condition of electrical assets and their designs for capability, risk, opportunity and need for intervention.
- Develop project management skills through close work with clients.
- Work in a hybrid setting, with opportunities to visit sites around the UK and occasional travel for overseas projects.
Qualifications
- Degree or similar qualification in a relevant Engineering subject supported with significant postgraduate experience in electrical design, operation, maintenance and testing.
- Attainment of or working towards professional registration with the Engineering Council UK (ECUK) at Chartered (CEng) level, leading to Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
- Chartered Engineer or working towards IEng/CEng and a member of a relevant Engineering Institute.
- Ability and desire to assume a lead role in the development of electrical deliverables and/or the assessment of assets under construction or in operation.
- Knowledge of design, construction and operation of power and energy projects.
- Experience working on maritime projects such as container terminals, liquid and dry bulk terminals, offshore wind, ro‑ro etc.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities and civil engineering skills.
- Capability to check and produce quality technical outputs and solutions.
- Ability to coordinate and work effectively with other disciplines and team members.
- Competence in using MS office‑based software.
- Clear communication in English, both orally and in writing.
- Personable, approachable, enthusiastic and empathetic.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Knowledge and practical experience of one or more design tools: AutoCAD, Revit, AMTECH ProDesign, ETAP, PSCAD, PowerFactory (DIgSILENT), Dialux, Relux.
