Responsibilities
- Manage, motivate, train, and develop Area Managers and Store Managers to maximise sales, efficiency, and standards.
- Oversee recruitment, training, appraisals, succession planning, and performance management at the management level.
- Set clear KPIs and performance expectations and hold Area Managers accountable for results.
- Monitor store operations including stock control, availability, waste, shrinkage, and replenishment across all locations.
- Analyse sales, margin, and cost data to identify trends and forecast future performance.
- Utilise IT and reporting systems to track sales, costs, labour, and operational performance.
- Ensure company standards for quality, customer service, customer experience, health, safety, and hygiene are consistently met.
- Lead health, food safety, and hygiene compliance, audits, and corrective action plans.
- Monitor customer satisfaction, feedback, and complaints, ensuring timely resolution and service improvement.
- Plan, support, and review promotions, layouts, displays, and seasonal activity to drive sales and footfall.
- Maintain awareness of market trends, customer behaviour, and competitor activity.
- Review store and area performance and implement improvement plans to increase profitability and consistency.
- Support new store openings, refits, and operational projects as required.
- Build strong relationships and communicate business updates, targets, and initiatives to Area Managers, Store Managers, and senior leadership.
- Take responsibility for wider operational functions such as finance, logistics, supply chain, or marketing, depending on business needs.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong leadership skills with proven experience developing Area Managers and senior retail teams.
- Ability to plan, prioritise, and delegate effectively across multiple stores.
- Strong customer focus with a passion for delivering excellent customer experience.
- Solid understanding of supermarket operations, food retail, and compliance standards.
- Capacity to grasp new concepts quickly and drive change effectively.
- Ability to multi-task and perform under pressure in a fast‑paced retail environment.
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to analyse data and make sound business decisions.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Collaborative mindset with a desire to work as part of a team to deliver continuous improvement.
