Technical Metallurgist / Materials Engineer
A leading manufacturing business within the metals sector is looking to appoint a technically driven Metallurgist / Materials Engineer to support production, product development and customer quality activities across a specialist stainless steel operation.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in metallurgy, materials science or manufacturing engineering who enjoys working across operations, commercial and customer-facing teams to drive technical excellence and continuous improvement.
The Role as a Technical Metallurgist
Working closely with both commercial and operational teams, you will play a key role in ensuring product quality, supporting customer requirements and driving improvement initiatives across the business.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Providing technical support across stainless steel rolling and bar production operations
- Acting as a key technical link between customers, suppliers and internal teams
- Supporting product quality, yield improvement and defect reduction activities
- Investigating customer claims and technical concerns, carrying out root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions
- Managing and supporting customer product trials through manufacturing processes
- Reviewing customer specifications and integrating requirements into operational systems
- Supporting product development and technical improvement projects
- Assisting with quality and compliance activities in line with ISO standards
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives through cross-functional collaboration
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- Degree qualification in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Materials Engineering or a related discipline
- Previous experience within technical, R&D, manufacturing or operational environments
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience supporting process improvement or technical projects
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across multiple stakeholder groups
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages including Excel and PowerPoint
Experience within stainless steel, long products, rod coil, rebar or bar manufacturing would be highly advantageous, although not essential.
