Job Title: Special Needs Teacher

Our school in North Manchester is looking for an experienced SEN teacher to provide support for pupils aged 11-19 with persistent and complex special educational needs. Responsibilities
- Lead a class or small group using a primary-style delivery model, adapting your teaching to meet the specific developmental levels of each pupil.
- Create and implement lesson plans that focus on social and life skills, preparing students for a successful transition into adulthood.
- Work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver holistic support, ensuring that Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets are met.
- Manage a classroom support team of Teaching Assistants, fostering a collaborative and efficient working environment.
- Utilise the school's 6th Form Hub resources and student-led businesses to provide practical, community-based learning opportunities.
- Design adapted curriculum content that encourages curiosity and creative expression for learners with complex needs.
- Maintain detailed records of student progress, ensuring all safeguarding and reporting requirements are strictly followed.
- Promote independence by teaching students how to navigate their local communities and develop vocational skills.
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with experience teaching students with moderate to severe learning difficulties (MLD/SLD).
- A valid Enhanced Child and Adult DBS on the Update Service, or a willingness to apply for one through Randstad.
- A proven ability to lead a classroom and manage support staff effectively within a specialist setting.
- Knowledge of the 11-19 curriculum with a focus on life skills and vocational pathways.
- Excellent communication skills to liaise with parents, carers, and external healthcare professionals.
- A patient and resilient approach, with a commitment to the "do your best" ethos of the school.
- Familiarity with PECS, Makaton, or other alternative communication methods is highly desirable.
- Full right to work in the UK.
