Senior Support Worker / Team Leader
Sector: Children’s Residential Care / Education
Pay: Negotiable, depending on experience Location: MirfieldContract: Full-time, permanentReports to: Registered Manager
About the Role
We are recruiting a Senior Support Worker / Team Leader to join a service supporting children and young people within a residential and/or educational setting. This role is ideal for an experienced Support Worker ready to step up, or an existing Senior Support Worker seeking a new challenge.
You will play a key role in delivering high-quality education, care, and independence programmes, while providing shift-based leadership and support to staff teams. Safeguarding, positive outcomes, and quality care are central to this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of individual education, care, and independence programmes for children and young people
- Provide shift-based supervision, guidance, and support to Support Workers
- Promote the safety, wellbeing, and positive behaviour of young people, managing incidents appropriately
- Act as a positive role model and mentor, supporting staff development and performance on shift
- Maintain accurate records and ensure documentation meets regulatory and organisational standards
- Ensure all practice aligns with safeguarding policies, statutory requirements, and quality standards
- Support effective communication with colleagues, families, and external professionals
- Contribute to a safe, structured, and supportive environment for young people
What we ask from you…
- Minimum 18 months or more experience working within a residential setting.
- Achieved your Level 3 or Level 4 Diploma (Residential Childcare) or equivalent
- Ability to interact with a range of people/young people.
- Confidence and ability to lead a team of Support Workers.
- To be able to provide consistency of care and support to the young people.
- Experience working with children who may display challenging behaviour.
- Shift work including weekends, evenings, and sleep-in duties on a rota system.
- Full driving licence is essential.
